Assets overview

Understand what assets are and how to work with them in your video.

Assets are the individual elements that make up your video: images, videos, audio, text, and shapes. Each asset sits on a layer in the timeline and can be styled, positioned, and timed independently.

Types of assets

VideoGen supports several asset types:

  • Images: Photos, illustrations, or AI-generated images

  • Videos: Uploaded video clips, stock footage, or AI video clips

  • Audio: Music, sound effects, or voiceover recordings

  • Text: Titles, captions, and text overlays

  • Shapes: Rectangles, circles, and other vector shapes

Where assets appear

Assets are displayed in the timeline as clips on layers. When you select a layer or section in the timeline, the right panel shows an Assets list with all non-empty assets on that selection.

Click any asset in the list to select it and view its controls.

Adding assets

To add an asset to an empty slot:

  1. Select an empty layer in the timeline.

  2. In the right panel, you will see Create asset with a grid of tools.

  3. Choose from your uploads, stock media, AI generation, text, or shapes.

You can also drag and drop media directly onto the timeline.

Asset controls

When an asset is selected, the right panel shows controls for:

  • Transform: Position, size, rotation, and crop

  • Timing: Start time, duration, and trim points

  • Appearance: Opacity, corners, and background

  • Animation: Entrance and exit effects

  • Volume: Audio level for video and audio assets

  • Voiceover: AI narration settings

  • Captions: Show or hide captions for assets with speech
