Asset tools overview

Learn where asset tools appear and how they help you add or replace content in the editor.

Asset tools are the shared media-tool flows you use to bring content into a project or swap content on an existing asset. In VideoGen, an asset can be a video clip, image, voiceover, music track, or another editable element like text, shapes, and tables, so asset tools appear in several places across the editor.


What asset tools include

  • Your library for uploading files and reusing previous uploads.

  • Built-in libraries for free stock, premium iStock, web images, and music.

  • AI generation for images, video clips, voiceover, sound effects, and avatar-based voiceover.

  • Editor-built elements for adding text, shapes, and tables directly inside the project.


Where you can access them

Asset tools are not limited to one button or one panel. Depending on what you are doing, you can open them from the media area of the left sidebar, from Insert in the timeline toolbar, when adding a section, or from replace and upload actions on a selected asset.

How they work

Most asset-tool entry points open the same underlying picker: you choose a tool, narrow the list with filters like Image, Video, AI, Audio, or Voiceover, and then configure that tool before adding or replacing the asset.

Insert and replace use the same family of tools, but they apply the result differently. Insert adds new content at the current time, while replace swaps the content on the asset you already selected. After that, you usually fine-tune timing in the timeline and positioning on the canvas.


When to use them

Use asset tools when you want to upload your own source material, search built-in libraries, generate something new with AI, or swap an existing asset for a better fit without leaving the editor workflow.


Important behavior

  • The tools you see can change based on the entry point and the active filter, so audio- and voiceover-focused flows may start in a narrower view than general insert flows.

  • The same project can combine many asset types at once, including visual media, audio, and editor-built elements like text or tables.

  • Asset tools are the intake and replacement layer. Once the asset is in the project, most layout, timing, and stacking changes happen in the canvas and timeline.
